MDDRAGON (author)
Camp was over. The bus was packed, and the excited kids were playing and dancing in the parking lot, tearing down the hill, or making one last stop in the outhouse. Raz and Lili walked down the path together. Somehow, without his goggled helmet he looked much more…mature…than ten years old. “Let’s be perfectly clear about this,” Lili said, “That was the best summer of my whole entire life.”
“Hey, the summer’s not over yet!” Raz pointed out. “We can hang out for a couple of weeks still.”
“My family lives out on the East Coast. Where’s yours?”
“They move around a lot.”
“Umm,” Lili said, toeing the ground. “Well, you better go,” she said, pointing. “Your dad’s waiting for you.” Raz turned and saw his dad standing in front of the tree ring timeline. When he saw Raz was looking, he smiled and waved. Raz turned back to Lili. “Umm, well,” Raz said, at a loss for words. He’d never had to say farewell to a girlfriend before. “Bye,” Lili said quietly, then turned to walk back up the path.
No.
Raz grabbed Lili’s hand, spun her around, and kissed her. It was a moment of pure joy and bliss. Why can’t love between adults be as simple? Raz pulled back, a dreamy look in his eyes. Lili smiled, but Raz saw it fade into sadness. Lili turned and ran away up the path. Raz, unsure what to do, reached out for her. Sasha and Milla landed in front of her, blocking her escape.
“Children, this is an emergency,” Sasha said as Raz ran to meet him. “There’s been another kidnapping.” “I was here the whole time! You saw me!” Coach Oleander called from where he stood next to his jeep. “No, this time we know who it is,” Sasha stated, “and that’s what scares us.” “Who was kidnapped?” Raz asked, worried. “Truman Zanotto, the Grand Head of the Psychonauts,” Milla sadly announced.
“Dad?” Lili asked, and Raz looked at her, surprised. “Sir, can you teleport this many of us back to headquarters?” Sasha asked Cruller. Right at that moment, the large Psitanium rock strapped to his back fizzled out. “Uh, what?” Cruller asked,as he slipped back into another personality. “Hey, what are you people doing in my kitchen? Now git!” he cried, shooing them away. Sasha sighed, holding a hand to his head. “Guess we’re taking the jet,” Oleander said, joining the circle.
The large blue and white jet rose up out of the forest and landed in the parking lot, hovering. Psitanium glowed in the back of the ship, where the forward-curving wings met the body. “Don’t worry about your father, Sweetheart,” Milla said, cupping Lili’s chin in a white glove. “After all,” Sasha said, as Cruller walked away behind Lili, “we’ll have Razputin helping us.” “I’m going?” Raz asked, surprised.
“Of course. We can’t do it without our anti-kidnapping specialist.”
Sasha smiled as he looked down at his protege. Raz held his hand to his chin, thinking. The pose made him look like Sasha. Raz turned and went to his father, the unasked question on his face. “I’ve taught you evrything I can, Son. Now go show them,” he said, placing his hands on Raz’s shoulders.
“Show them all.”
Raz nodded and looked at Lili, something unspoken passing between them. “Let’s go,” Raz said, and they trooped toward the jet. A pink telekinetic hand opened the hatch in the roof, and more hands picked up Raz, Lili, and the other Psychonauts and dropped them in the jet. The hand disappeared and the hatch closed. The jet took off, leaving a pink and blue light trail.
Raz and Lili looked out a window, watching the clouds above and the scenery below. This was the first time Raz had ever flown, unless one counts the time in Coach Oleander’s Basic Braining class, which he didn’t. The flight took several hours, and eventually the two got bored and snuggled into a chair. Sasha was worried about it, and Milla thought it was cute, but none of the adults told the two off. All three adults, however, were worried about what Truman Zanotto would think of Raz.
“Morry, park there,” Sasha said, pointing, as they neared Psychonaut Headquarters. “Don’t tell me what to do, Nein. It’s not like they’ve remodeled or anything since I was last here,” Oleander said in his growly voice. “Actually, they have,” Milla pointed out.
“Really?!”
Raz and Lili burst into the giggles. Sasha placed his hand over his mouth to hide his smile from Morceau. Oleander landed the jet, and the pink telekinetic hands appeared again to open the hatch and let everyone out. Several agents, all clad in black, came out to greet them. The one female was very tall and had red hair. “Agent Nein. Agent Vodello. Agent Oleander,” the female agent said. Then she saw Raz.
“Why is that boy wearing a uniform?”
“Agent Latke, this is Agent Razputin,” Sasha said. Raz came over to stand between Sasha and the woman. “Razputin, this is Agent Latke. She’s in charge of security here at headquarters,” Sasha explained. “If this is some sort of trick…” Latke said, but she reached out to shake hands with Raz. He saw a smile spread across her face. “Agent Latke…” Raz started, but she cut him off by ruffling his hair.
“Don’t worry. I understand…oh! And by the way, call me Angie.”
Raz felt slightly disgruntled. He didn’t like people touching his hair. Agent Angie and her companions turned to leave, and Milla, Oleander, Sasha, and Lili started to follow. Raz nodded belatedly and ran to catch up with them. Up ahead, Angie fell in step with Lili. Raz saw the woman whisper something to the girl. Lili cried out and fell back to walk with Raz. “Angie! You’re upsetting the children!” Milla reprimanded her. “Ha. They’ll live,” Angie said.
She annoys the crap outta me.
“Me, too,” Raz said. “Ah! Stop reading my mind!” Lili demanded. “I can’t help it,” Raz explained. Once inside headquarters, Angie led them to the temporary Grand Head. Agent Ruse stood outside the Grand Head’s office, waiting for them. Angie pulled Raz in front of Ruse. “This is Agent Raz,” she explained. Ruse studied Raz for a moment. “You look young for a Psychonaut. How old are you, boy?” he asked.
“Ten, sir.”
“And he’s Miss Zanotto’s boyfriend!”
“Angie!”
“Agent Latke, you’re dismissed,” Ruse stated. “Ohh!” she whined, then went off with her officers. “Agent Nein, the Grand Head was on his way to retrieve his daughter from camp when he was kidnapped…” Ruse explained the situation, but Raz’s mind wandered. Something in the Grand Head’s office was tugging at him. Raz went invisible and slipped through the partially open door. “Raz!” Lili cried when she saw her boyfriend pull up his invisibility. Milla, Oleander, Sasha, and Ruse all looked at her.
“He’s gone invisible!”
“Razputin doesn’t know his way around here. We have to find him,” Sasha said. “What’s gotten into that boy?” Oleander asked no one in particular.
“Darling!”
“Private!”
“Ra-az!”
Raz walked around the desk. The tugging was stronger here. He found a drawer, but it was locked. Whatever was tugging on him was in there. “Oh, man!” he said, hitting his head against the drawer. Raz heard a click, and the drawer slid out, as if of its own accord. He looked inside. There lay a pair of goggles. The lenses were green, and the headband was black. Raz picked them up and examined them.
“Hmm, must be nightvision goggles.”
Raz placed the goggles on his head and pulled them down over his eyes. At first it was dark, but then his eyes adjusted. Everything in the room stood out in clarity through the green lenses. Then Raz noticed the glowing footprints. The large, purple ones walked around the desk. The smaller, red ones, Raz quickly figured out, were his. Raz walked around the desk and saw many different colored footprints clumped together. The purple footprints were Truman Zanotto’s. They had to be, being the only adult-sized ones on the other side of the desk. Raz followed them out of the room.
”Raz!”
Lili’s Psitanium-colored footprints danced across her father’s. “Raz! Where did you go? Sasha and Milla are freaking out!” Lili complained. “I found these really cool goggles in your dad’s desk!” Raz exclaimed. “I can see these glowing footprints!”
“Really?”
“Yeah,” said Raz, looking at the floor. “I know you can’t see them, but yours are, like, a pink-purple color, mine are red, and there’s these big, dark purple ones I think are your dad’s…”
“Razputin!”
Sasha mentally called Milla, Ruse, and Oleander to tell them he’d found Raz. Then he saw Raz’s new goggles.
“Razputin, can you see through those goggles?”
“Yeah…” Raz answered, not sure what Sasha was talking about. Ruse was the first to catch up with them. He stared at Raz’s goggles.
“Can you see through those?”
“Yes! Why are you asking me that? I can see everything just fine, and there’s these freaky, glowing footprints…”
Ruse looked at Sasha, who just shrugged. Raz pulled the goggles up onto his hair. “There’s something special about these goggles, isn’t there?” Raz said, coming up to Ruse and Sasha. “Yes,” Sasha said. “Since you’re able to use them, I’m sure you want to know the story of Truman Zanotto’s goggles…”

Colette walked into the store. The brightly colored birds fluttered their wings in their cages. Some kittens tussled in their pen. A dog wagged his tail as she walked by. A white rabbit shivered in its pen. A little hamster stood up and watched her, grooming his head. She stopped by an aquarium, where its occupants watched her wearily.
“Anyone want to come home with me?” she spoke softly. The owner walked over to her. “Are you interested in a rat?” he said, smiling at what he hoped was a potential customer. “I know they are not the most popular animals in Paris, but,” he said, placing his hand in with the rats. One rubbed up against his hand, wanting to be petted.
“I like them,” he finished, fulfilling the rat’s request. A rat with fur that was a lovely shade of dark brown walked up the side of her enclosure and studied Colette. “Ah, this one seems to like you,” lifting her out and offering her to Colette. Colette held her hands together, and the rat slowly, hesitantly stepped into her outstretched palms. She sniffed Colette’s hands and face, and, evidently feeling safe enough, started grooming her head, running her paws from the back of her neck and over her ears to down her face. “Rats are usually very clean creatures,” the owner said, smiling at Colette and the rat. “When given the chance…would you like to buy her?”
“Oui, oui!”
Colette and the owner walked over to the counter, and Colette set the rat on the counter. The rat had never seen the counter from this angle before, but she was more interested in Colette. She scampered up Colette’s sleeve and squeaked in her ear.
“Where are we going, Lady?”
Colette just laughed. The owner smiled again. “Good luck, Mademoiselle,” he said, leading the way to the front door. The dog whimpered as they passed. The kitten’s mother hissed. Colette walked outside, and the owner gently shut the door behind her.
The rat sat on Colette’s shoulder, watching the scene before her. She had never been outside the pet shop before, and the dark street stretched out before her with its noisy cars. Colette gently picked the rat up and placed her in her leather jacket before zipping it up. The rat stuck her head out of the collar, sticking out her tongue in disgust. Colette laughed.
“Hold on tight, Little One…”
The motorcycle started with a roar, and they were off! Into the night they raced, the rat knew not what. She tucked herself down into the leather jacket. There were jerking stops, and then they’d be off again. “Where are we going?” she squeaked again, but Colette merely said, “It’s all right, Little One.” Finally they stopped, and the rat could no longer hear the roar of the motor.
She popped her head out of the leather jacket. She saw that they were standing in front of a new building. Colette took out her key and unlocked the door. She stepped inside and closed the door. The rat looked around the room they were in. Colette set her on the floor.
“You more or less have the run of the place.”
The rat looked back at Colette. “Now that I think about it, you need a name,” Colette said, still crouching.
“Mademoiselle?”
The rat shook her head.
“Marie?”
Still not it.
“Raleigh?”
Nope.
“Antoinette?”
Yes.
“Antoinette? That’s your name?”
Yes!
Colette scooped Antoinette up and took her into the kitchen. Ann watched as Colette began collecting ingredients and placing them on the counter. “I am a chef in a restaurant with my boyfriend,” Colette explained. “Do you want to learn how to cook?” Ann sniffed but just looked generally confused.
“Okay,” Colette said, “which food would you like to eat?” Ann scampered along the counter, smelling all the different foods. A strange scent tickled her nostrils, and she followed it around the counter. She stopped at a small dish full of a sweet-smelling, dark semi-liquid. Ann stuck her paw in the rat-sized portion of chocolate and tasted it.
Overcome with delight, Ann closed her eyes and surrendered to the flavors bursting on her tongue. She was surrounded with big pink hearts and shooting stars.
When the taste was gone, Ann found herself on her back, staring up at Colette.
“That will do, Antoinette. That will do.”
Rahnee watched as Shrek and Fiona walked away. She could hear the voices of the three little mages her cousin was bearing. There was one female voice…
“I got a short attention span; Can’t sit around coach potato land! I wanna do all kinds of stuff; Talking about it’s not enough, oh…I wanna go to the extreme! I wanna stretch my limousine! I wanna take it way off road, go where I’m not supposed ta go! Life…is…music…play…it…louder…”
The second voice was male…
“I’ve given up; I’m giving up slowly. I’m blending in so you won’t even know me, apart from this whole world that shares my fate. This one last bullet you mention is my own last shot at redemption. I know to live you must give your life away. And I’ve been housing all this doubt and insecurity, and I’ve been locked inside that house all while you hold the key. And I’ve been dying to get out, and that might be the death of me!”
And the third voice, also male.
“Somebody once told me ‘the world is gonna roll me. I ain’t the sharpest tool in the shed.’ She was lookin’ kinda dumb with her finger and her thumb in the shape of an ‘L’ on ‘er forehead! Well, the years start coming, and they don’t stop coming! Fed to the rules and I hit the ground runnin’! Didn’t make since not to live for fun. Yer brain gets smart but yer head gets dumb! So much to do, so much to see! So what’s wrong with taking the backstreets? You’ll never know if you don’t go; you’ll never shine if you don’t glow!”
Close by, Rahnee could hear slightly muffled arguing. She climbed up onto the side of the fallen tower, following the arguing. She began tapping on the bricks with her nail, looking like some giant, winged aye-aye. The occupants of the fallen tower fell silent. Listening to the echoes, she finally stopped and used her long fingernails to scrape away the mortar around a brick.
Rahnee pulled out the brick and set it aside. “Rahnee? Is that you?” the tone deaf Prince Charming stage-whispered. “Yeah,” Rahnee growled. “After what you did, you’re lucky I’m not in the mood fer a snack…” The second occupant, a female, gasped at the dragongirl’s words.
“What are you, Veronica?”
Rahnee made a sound like a annoyed horse. “Veronica. That’s a new one…” she said, surprised. “Nope. Just R-A-H-N-E-E, ’kay?” She worked away, pulling out more bricks. Prince Charming leapt up out of the hole and tried to run, thinking he had escaped the girls and the ruined tower. As he jumped off the edge, Rahnee’s tail wrapped around his waist.
“Not so fast, Char..”
As Charming tried to wriggled free, Rahnee helped Rapunzel up out of the hole. The princess noticed blood caked on the gold bracelet snaking itself around Rahnee’s arm. “Ya know,” the dragon pondered, studying the bald princess. “If ya have no tail, ya don’t play like you’ve got one longer then the Queen Dragon’s!” Rahnee really didn’t put much stake in hair, especially since she’d put her hair into dreadlocks after the incident, but she realized this girl was truly unhappy. Rahnee glanced at the struggling Charming and his “soft, bouncy hair”.
This thought sent shivers running down her spine. Charming was shaken from side to side, and he became dizzy and rather nauseous. “Ya know, girl,” Rahnee grinned at her fellow princess. “I think you need that hair more than he does…” Charming turned at this and looked at Rahnee’s big mischievous smile and at the grin spreading across Rapunzel’s face.
“No! I won’t let you take it!”
One side of Rahnee’s smile was higher than the other. “The way I see it,” Rahnee explained, “since you don’t ‘love’ her anymore” (making quotes while holding onto Rapunzel’s arm) “she deserves a lil’ ‘severance package’…”
“No! N-”
Rahnee slugged him, still holding onto Rapunzel. ≈ ≈ ≈
“Oh! I love it!”
Rapunzel was tossing her head, reveling in her new shoulder length hair. “It’s alive, so ya gotta take care of it,” Rahnee explained, reveling in Charming’s misery. He kept running one hand over his smooth head and kept gingerly feeling his face with the other. His jaw was swelling from where Rahnee had dislocated it and popped it back into place. A large purple bruise decorated his cheekbone. Humans…so weak and fragile. How can they accomplish anything? She could have easily healed the damage of her single punch, but he would not learn anything that way, would he? Let him be normal, like the rest of us. Let him learn the true beauty of asymmetry. “I will get you for this humiliation! I swear it!” “Yeah,” Rahnee cried. “When ya learn ta carry a tune!” “Oh,” Rapunzel said, patting Rahnee on the arm. “He’s just upset you’ve marred his handsome face…” Rahnee made her annoyed horse noise again. “Handsome?! Girl, you have yet to learn your lesson,” Rahnee said, wrapping an arm around Rapunzel. “See ya later, Charred!” Rahnee laughed as she lifted off, leaving Charming abandoned at the gate of Far Far Away. He heard Rapunzel’s screams mixing with Rahnee’s laughter.
Dudley sat uncomfortably in the chair outside the office. His parents were inside talking to the principal and some of the Order. Since he could no longer go to Smeltings, the Dursleys had insisted that he go to a school. The Order finally relented, arranging for Dudley to attend a public school in which a Squib was principal. It was now well into the school year, however, and that would just make fitting in his final year that much harder. The bell rang, and the students began to traipse about in the halls. He heard her before he saw her, her beautiful voice ringing throughout the hall. Her voice had a drawl to it, but he could tell she was an American.
“I wanna stay home today…don’t wanna go out! If anyone comes to play…gonna get thrown out! I wanna stay home today, don’t want no company, no way. Yeah, yeah, yeah!”
She came walking around the corner, singing full tilt. She was singing, from the memory of the song it seemed because she wasn’t wearing headphones. She had her eyes closed, but she smiled as strode easily down the hall, holding her books to her stomach. Her straight, black hair was tied to the left side of her head with a blue ponytail. Her t-shirt proclaimed, “Shade and Sweet Water!” to the world.
A medallion in the shape of dragon wings hung from the chain about her neck. Her jeans sported a pink, camouflage pattern. As she passed him, Dudley saw that her backpack’s design held a green face with ears like the bells of brass instruments. As she passed other students, they became silent and withdrawn. When she was gone, they returned to their conversations.
A commotion behind him startled Dudley, and he turned away from the doorway she had disappeared into. Several boys Dudley’s age were harassing a skinny-looking boy who wore glasses just like Harry’s. He was backed against the wall as they surrounded him with taunting grins. Dudley squeezed in between them.
“Leave him alone.”
The poor nerd shivered behind Dudley. Now what? Some of the boys laughed, but their leader shrewdly looked Dudley up and down. “Okay,” the red-haired boy said, “but you’ll have your comeuppance soon, New Kid…” He left, his confused comrades following behind. Dudley turned and grabbed the nerd’s collar.
“Who’s that girl from before? The one who was singing?”
“Singing?” he croaked. His feet were dangling above the floor. “L-lucy Elw-wick, I-I think,” he stammered.
“What’s she like?”
“She, she’s from America. This is her third year going here. She’s into sci-fi fantasy books and movies, she loves Japanese anime, she believes in magic…”
Dudley promptly dropped him in shock. The nerd stood up, dusted himself off, then bent to retrieve his books. “You know,” he said, not so afraid of Dudley, “there are better ways to find out about a girl…” Dudley shot him a look, and the nerd ran off. Dudley sat down in the chair again, full of thoughts about what his parents had taught him all his life, about Harry and magic, and about the unusual girl whom he could not forget.
I haven’t written in a while. I was having problems with my laptop, but I’ve gotten it straightened out. Now I’m just going to put the the first post of a story up. The rest will have its own page.
I went to wake my brother. At first, he hugged my arms, and then he laid back and said quite clearly, “All I am carrying is mushrooms.” Mushrooms?! When he finally woke, he said, “What are you doin’ in my bedroom? Get out.” Turns out he was dreaming about Runescape. There’s this necromancer that can turn characters into mushrooms. My brother dreamed that the necromancer had turned all our Runescape friends into mushrooms. My brother put them all in his backpack. He met this guy who wanted to trade for gold. My brother had no room for gold in his backpack; it was too full of mushrooms!!!!!
Sorry I haven’t written in a while. I’ve been working on several fan fics besides Puss and Donkey’s Dragonish Adventure. I have one fan fic called Prince Thomas the Ogre-Mage, but I started that before I saw Shrek the Third. Still, I had a pretty good idea how the movie was going to turn out. I’m going start a new story from the triplets angle, but I am not dropping the Tommy story! I’ve also started a Pokémon story about the adorable little Mew, and I might have a Sonic the Hedgehog fan fic sometime in the future! Ciao!
